Leucate is reached via the exit 40
from the A9 highway. As you aproatch the small town it is advisable not
to drive through the centre, but to follow the D27, wichis circling the
town and leaing down to Leucate beach.
At the sea side
you find a camping site,
Municipal Cap Leucate. There is a big parking in front where you can
park while you book. It is opened from 1 st. February until 30 rd
November. Even closer to the beach, actually right in front of it, is a
auto camper parking.
Surfers looking for accommodation, were seen using the cabins on the
camping site,
Mer-Sable-Soleil
also situated at Leucate beach.
Leucate area is
very popular for wind surfers. There are 4 surf equipment shops in
Leucate beach. They are easy to find along the road leading to the
beach.
If you follow the
coastal road South, then you arrive to Leucate Port after 5 Km. It is a
large marina, surrounded by flats and small town houses. As it was the
beginning of October, it was very quiet here. The place is full of life
during the summer, and spending the rest of the year in the doldrums.
